was released on February 25, 2010. This course will
be replacing the current Wilderness First Aid Basics course.
All American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Instructors and Instructor
Trainers are required to update their instructor authorization for this

will lose their authorization.
What You Need to Do by December 31, 2009
The steps outlined below are for current Wilderness First Aid Basics
instructors who are also authorized instructors for Lay Responder First
Aid and CPR/AED; Emergency Response; and Lifeguarding ONLY. If you are
a current Wilderness First Aid Basics Instructor and are not also authorized
to teach any of the three courses listed above you are not eligible to
complete the online bridging - please contact Larry Decker at (719) 785-2713
for more information on what you need to do to complete the update into
the new curriculum.
Step 1 - After March 10, stop by our
office to pick up the new Wilderness and Remote First Aid Instructor’s
Manual (cost is $29) and the new Wilderness and Remote First Aid Student
Kit (cost is $16) for a total of $45.
Step 2 - Register at Instructor's Corner at www.instructorscorner.org
if you're not currently registered.
Step 3 - Complete the online instructor update at Instructor's
Corner by clicking on Instructor Tools. Under Instructor Updates follow
the prompts to complete the Wilderness and Remote First Aid online bridging.
Once you've completed the online bridging, print the Verification Form
at the end of your session and sign it.
Step 4 - Bring in or mail your printed and signed Verification
Form from Instructor's Corner to Larry Decker and you will be issued your
new Wilderness and Remote First Aid instructor authorization.
Please Note
- If you are unable to purchase your new WFA materials in person, you
may order them over the phone and have them shipped to you ($10.00 S&H
charge will apply and payment is required at the time you place your order).
Please call Larry at (719) 785-2713 to place your order.
- Your Verification Form will not be accepted or processed for your new
Instructor Certificate without having purchased the instructor and student
materials outlined above. You must have the instructor materials in front
of you when you complete the online update at Instructor's Corner.
If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Larry
Decker at (719) 785-2713 or ldecker@pparc.org

Becoming an Authorized Provider
What is an Authorized Provider?
An individual or organization who is certified to offer Red Cross programs
at your facility, with your own Red Cross
trained instructors. Teach courses to employees of your business or members
of your organization – whenever and
wherever you want. Teaching life saving courses provides an excellent
benefit to your employees and ensures you
have trained people on hand to respond to unexpected emergencies. By sending
one of your employees to our New
Instructor Training class, you can teach the American Red Cross courses
in-house as often as you’d like. Training to
become an American Red Cross instructor involves two days of training
and a commitment to teach at least one class
every two years to maintain certification. Materials and equipment for
the classes you teach can be purchased from us
and you may choose to rent the training manikins, AED trainers and training
DVDs.
How Do I Become an Authorized Provider?
Step 1 - Register for the New Instructor Training class
at $175 per person to teach our First Aid and CPR courses. View the schedule
for this course and register on our website at www.pparc.org
Step 2 - Complete and submit the Authorized
Provider Application to Larry Decker via email at ldecker@pparc.org
or fax to (719) 632-0206.
Step 3 - We will draft your Authorized Provider Agreement
and schedule an appointment with you to come in to review and sign. You
will then receive a Welcome Kit with all of the necessary instructions,
forms, etc.
Step 4 - Purchase and/or rent the materials and equipment
that you need and begin teaching whenever you’d like! Turn in your Course
Records to us after you teach a class and we’ll process the certification
cards for you.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Larry Decker
at ldecker@pparc.org or (719) 785-2713.
The process is different for organizations wanting only to teach and provide
courses such as Pet FA/CPR, Wilderness First Aid, Water Safety, CPR for
the Professional Rescuer and Babysitter's Training - be sure to contact
Larry before you register for the New Instructor Training class if you
only want to be authorized to provide one of those classes mentioned.

How
to View Your Instructor Authorization and Teaching History Report
In an effort to go green and to reduce expenses, we will no longer mail
hard copies of your instructor authorization certificate at the time of
each annual reauthorization. You will, however, be able to access an electronic
transcript which includes your teaching authorizations through the Learning
Management System online database. Here's how:
Step 1 - You will need your
Student ID number and password. If you don't know your Student ID number,
you may call us at (719) 632-3563. Anyone in the Health & Safety Department
can provide this information to you. Your password is "student"
the first time you log on.
Step 2 - Go
to the Learning
Mangement System at https://learningctr.redcross.org/.
Step 3 - At the top, left of
the screen, click "Student Log In."
Step 4 - Enter your student
ID # and password (all lower case). Your default password is "student"
the first time you log in. You will be prompted to change your password
with a message that tells you that the password "student" has
expired. You may set your password to whatever you'd like, but you MUST
record it somewhere as it will not be recorded on our end. If you forget
the password that you establish we will not be able to provide it to you
as we do not have access to that information.
Step 5 - On the left hand side,
under "Student Information", click "Reports." Under
"Report Name," click "Instructor Authorization Transcript."
Step 6 - If your report does
not appear, click "Run Report" to view. You may need to download
a current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is your official instructor
authorization record which will replace the hard copy instructor certificates.
You may print this record.
If you have any questions
or have any trouble logging in, please contact Larry Decker at (719) 785-2713
or ldecker@pparc.org.

First
Aid Training for Youngsters
Are you looking for a way to provide your younger scouts
and students with first aid training? The American Red Cross offers
two programs for youngsters: Basic Aid Training (BAT)
and First Aid for Children Today (FACT). BAT is a
program geared towards children 6 - 9 years of age while FACT is designed
for children 9 -12 years of age. Both programs offer first aid learning
at levels children can relate to and interactive activity books. In
addition to the scout receiving valuable first aid training, some
of the training can also be used to complete certain badge requirements.
For more information on how you can provide this training to your
scouts and students, please contact Larry Decker at (719) 785-2713
or ldecker@pparc.org. |
Customer
Referral Program
We have implemented a referral program for current Pikes Peak
Chapter Health and Safety customers (Authorized Providers and contract
class customers). In recognition of your efforts, we'd like to provide
an opportunity for you to save some money by referring other organizations
to the American Red Cross Health & Safety training program. If you
are a current cusomter of our's, your organization can receive a monetary
reward for referring new business to the American Red Cross Pikes Peak
Chapter. Here's how it works - for every organization that you refer to
our chapter you will receive either a one-time bonus of $100 after your
referred organization teaches their first class OR a one-time bonus of
20% of the course cost if your referred organization has us teach a class
for them.
How do I refer someone
to you? Here is the Referral
Form. If there is an organization that you think could benefit from
Health & Safety training, print and complete this form and submit
it to our chapter at hwalma@pparc.org;
fax to (719) 632-0206 or mail to 1040 S. 8th St., Colorado Springs, CO
80906. Our staff will contact this organization to get them started. If
they teach a class or have us teach a class for them, your organization
will receive compensation accordingly by check to the address we have
on file after completion of the new organization's first class. Please
note that your organization and the new customer accounts must be paid
in full in order to receive your compensation. If you'd like to know the
progress of your referral, you may contact Heather Walma at (719) 785-2728.
We welcome your referrals and hope that you find this program beneficial
to you.
