Intern - Receptionist

Reports to: Business Manager
Classification: Unpaid internship, Part Time, 20 hours per week

Job Summary

Provides a variety of customer services, to include management of multiple incoming phone lines, taking messages, answering questions, relaying information, greeting walk-in customers, and staff location when necessary.  Primary responsibility is to present a professional and friendly attitude and to service all customers of the American Red Cross with dignity, efficiency and kindness. 

Duties will include photo copying and scanning, incoming and outgoing mail processing, as well as other tasks and duties as assigned by the Office Manager.

Job Duties

  • Customer Service Representative
  • Answers multiple line incoming phone calls
  • Screens incoming calls and directs each call to the appropriate department and/or person
  • Greet walk in customers who arrive at the Chapter Headquarters
  • Provides new volunteer information to walk ins and customers calling on the phone
  • Maintain excellent relationships with paid & volunteer staff members and all clients
  • Open and distribute mail on a daily basis

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Must have excellent customer service and people skills.  Ability to communicate with clients effectively in person and on the telephone
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that provides required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Basic computer skills, the ability to alphabetize, sort, and file with efficiency. Knowledge/experience with Word, Excel and Microsoft Outlook very helpful.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, professional, and a good time manager.
